I write for people

I write for people
who
for the most part
seem kind enough
but
appear to be
to me
painfully ordinary
who want to be moved
slightly
in terribly predictable ways
who
want ordinary themes
laid out
with ordinary words
stories that have been heard
a thousand times over
and
anything that rests beyond
what they have seen
must be nothing more
than silly fantasy
and
they have seen
far too little
this
is no large nui·sance for me
i
long ago
had the good sense to learn how
to drink pass my problems
but
for them
i might weep
